Arctia and Nippon Salvage tighten Japanese-Finnish bonds

Japanese Nippon Salvage Company and Arctia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the transaction of salvage operations. The MoU was signed in Tokyo, Japan, on February 3rd 2017 by Mr. Yoshiyuki Nagao, President of Nippon Salvage Company, and Mr. Tero Vauraste, President and CEO of Arctia.

Nippon Salvage and Arctia are both providers of quality maritime services in harsh conditions. The MoU is a good example of the strategic partnership between Japan and Finland encouraged by a Joint Statement by Mr. Sauli Niinistö, President of the Republic of Finland, and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan in March 2016. In the Statement, the two leaders concurred to cooperate to strengthen networks and promote collaboration in the Arctic among government institutions, research institutions, and business communities of both countries.

Arctia was part of the business delegation both during the President’s official visit to Tokyo in March 2016 and Minister of Economic Affairs Olli Rehn’s Team Finland visit to Tokyo in May 2016. Arctia has since met many Japanese partners and wished them welcome to cooperate in the Arctic 100 Expedition and other projects requiring icebreakers.
